Evening Skincare Routine - Sweet Dreams are made of these....

As I near my 40th birthday I feel I need to become more grown up with my skincare routine, more like a Parisian lady - I imagine them to have excellent skincare routines.

I can be particularly lazy where my evening skincare routine is concerned. I can either feel too tired to do anything much or I just can't really be bothered. I have been known on more than one occasion to sleep with a full face of make up on which results in the most shocking look in the morning and a very colourful pillow case! Or I will use makeup wipes which I know aren't the best for your skin but I think on these occasions something is better than nothing. Wipes, I think as a rule should really only be used after a very late night, when you are camping or are at a festival (I never actually go to festivals but I feel cool saying that!).

When I am being good though I do have a routine which I follow and I now have new products that I want to start and which I hope will improve my evening routine.

Cleanser first.  Previously, I was a bit lazy and tended to use my Bioderma Sensibo H2O Micellar Water not only to remove my eye makeup but also to remove all my other makeup.  This does work and is fine to do but I think a deeper cleanse is probably better.   Now though I have my Emma Hardie Cleansing Balm. This is not a liquid but a more solid balm which you apply to dry skin and remove with a flannel and warm water. Massage it into your skin well to really remove all the dirt and makeup from the day.

As in the morning I tend to still use my Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water to  remove my eye makeup due to the fact that I do wear quite heavy eye makeup and like to make sure I have removed as much of it as I can. I then apply my eye cream and I use the same product as in the morning. My Kiehls Midnight Recovery Eye.

It is this next stage where I would use a mask. But to be honest I am not very good with masks and need to find a good one. Any recommendations? I do have a Dermologica ???one which I use twice a week when I remember which I do like.

Toner is next and again I plan to use my Clarins Exfoliating Toner 2 or 3 times a week and then if I was being extra good I would use a moisture spray to spritz my face. I currently don't own any of these products so I need to do a bit of research into these and will let you know if I find any good ones.

Serum next and I am currently using the Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate which I have heard so many good things about.  I apply this to my skin and hope it works its miracles on my skin as I sleep. I have only just started to use it but will let you know what I think.

Moisturiser on next but often I just leave it with my serum as my skin sometimes feels overloaded. Though this maybe due to the night cream I am currently using which is Elemental Herbology Facial Souffle Overnight Cream. This product smells lovely but I find it to be very thick and heavy and just seems to sit on my skin. I am on the look out for a lighter night cream.

I then take to bed and wait for the products and nature to take their course but as I am a bit of an insomniac I think the products don't always get the time they need to work properly.

  2. Thanks Carole - perfect timing, I was going to ask you to recommend a good eye cream - going to try the Kiehls one, let's hope it prevents my panda-eye problem!

  3. Hi Anita, I hope the eye cream helps. I have black circles too and have yet to find the perfect eye cream but I wonder if that actually exists! I do love the Kiehls skin care range xxx
